To the Englisch version of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction

Networks and Partners

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction 2015-2030 calls for a broad-based cooperation of actors from all areas of society (e.g. science and research, administration, politics, practice) and across national borders. Furthermore, the international frameworks should be implemented coherently, which can only be achieved through interdisciplinary cooperation between institutions and individuals, e.g. in the areas of disaster prevention, climate change adaptation and sustainable development.

DKKV is actively involved in a large number of national and international networks and cooperates with these partners in various contexts. These networks are listed below.

This list will be successively expanded.

Bonner Netzwerk - International Disaster Control and Risk Management
Numerous organisations and institutions of the civil protection are located in Bonn. These are part of the Bonn network. In addition to United Nations agencies, the Bonn network also includes federal authorities, scientific institutions, development organisations, companies, relief agencies, non-governmental organisations and many others.
The DKKV is a founding member of the Bonn network and is actively involved in its organisation.
UNFCCC - United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
UNFCCC- Is the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Secretariat works to achieve the established objective of maintaining greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous interference with the climate system.
The UNFCCC supports inter alia climate change negotiations, the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Climate Convention. The Secretariat also supports governments and institutions in developing techniques that can help to increase resilience to the unavoidable consequences of climate change.

Through the observer status held by DKKV, DKKV representatives are entitled to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference.
DERN - Disaster and Emergency Research Network
The Disaster and Emergency Research Network is a platform that focuses on the exchange and mutual support of persons and institutions active in emergency and disaster research.
Within the network, new and interesting reports and work from the various disciplines are shared. Furthermore, the network aims to give more visibility to the members and their topics and thus enable cooperation for scholarships or research projects.
Benni Thiebes is member of the network as managing director of DKKV.
IRDR - Integrated Research on Disaster Risk
Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) is an international research programme that looks at the challenges of managing natural disasters and aims to mitigate their effects.
In addition, it aims to improve policy-making mechanisms related to the management and prevention of the effects of natural events.
The IRDR is financed by the UN Office for Disaster Reduction (UNDRR) and the International Science Council (ISC), among others.
A network of national committees in the UN member states supports the research. These committees serve as national contact points, are intended to promote networking and to advise and support political decision-makers in decision-making.
The DKKV assumes the role of national committee for the Federal Republic of Germany.
Risk KAN - Knowledge Action Network on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events
Risk KAN is a network which has set itself the goal of bringing together international players in the field of disaster research and management and of creating the opportunity to benefit from the various expertises. The network aims to reduce the disaster risk caused by climate change and to identify research priorities for this. It also aims to intensify cooperation between science, business, politics, administration and NGOs through its various members.
DKKV is a member of Risk KAN and Benni Thiebes, as DKKV's Managing Director, is part of a working group on early warning systems.
ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability
ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is a global association of cities, municipalities and counties working on environmental protection and sustainable development. Today, more than 1,750 municipalities and cities from over 100 countries are part of the network. They are engaged in local activities for a sustainable future and improved global environmental conditions.
The DKVK has supported ICLEI as a partner in organising the Resilient Cities Congress and, among other things, offered 2 excursions for the participants.
The Climate Navigator is a national web portal with pilot function for climate and environmental information in Germany. This portal bundles and points the way to the climate knowledge available in science and knowledge on adaptation options or to the relevant organisations and institutions.
DKKV is a member of the Climate Navigator network.
GNDR - Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction
