Webinar Series: Sustainability and the SDGs: Promoting a Dynamic Science-Policy Interface

The webinar series, co-hosted by International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM), discuss Sustainability and the SDGs in three virtual events. Thereby two international speakers are invited for each session. Afterwards the audience is invited to ask questions.

The webinars will explore pathways to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals from multiple perspectives:

Webinar 1: 31. August, 3 pm CEST
Sustainability and the SDGs: Sustainability and The World in 2050
•An integrated approach to implementing the SDGs that combines multiple research expertise from science to engineering to medicine in order to maximize the synergies and minimize the trade-offs across the goals.

Webinar 2: 14. September, 5 pm CEST
Sustainability and the SDGs: The Science-Policy-Society Interface
•How can science best inform public understanding and aid in policy decision-making to achieve a sustainable future.

Webinar 3: 28. September, 5 pm CEST
Sustainability and the SDGs: Science Diplomacy
•How can science diplomacy facilitate international cooperation to meet sustainability challenges at global and regional scales.

Online Training Course on “Making Cities Resilient"

The online training course on “Making Cities Resilient: Developing and implementing local disaster risk reduction strategy to respond to COVID-19 and to better prepare for the future" is co-hosted by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Global Education and Training Institute (GETI), the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The course includes 5 online sessions on every tuesday in the period of 08 September to 06 October 2020. All participants completing at least 75% of this training will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Online Training Course on “Making Cities Resilient" #2

The E-Learning Course on the topic "Making cities resilient: Developing local disaster risk reduction and resilience strategies" is organized by the Global Education and Training Institute of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR GETI) in cooperation with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The aim of the course is to strengthen the capacities of government professionals to design and implement plans and programmes that reduce disaster risk and enhance resilience. It is seperated in 6 modules and takes approximately 4 hours of learning time per week. All participants completing at least 70% of this training will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Online Training Course on "Resilience of local governments"

The online training on the topic "Resilience of local governments: A multi-sectoral approach to integrate public health and disaster risk management" is hosted by the Global Education and Training Institute of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR GETI) in cooperation with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The Course is intended for government officials, health professionals, disaster management professionals and academic and training institutions working on disaster risk management. It aims to contribute to strengthening the capacity of local government officials for risk reduction and resilience planning inclusive of health threats management.

Webinar: Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities and Older Persons in the Humanitarian Response to GBV

The event takes place within the Global Protection Forum by the Global Protection Cluster and is organized by the the GBV AoR, UNHCR, Humanity & Inclusion and HelpAge international. The webinar will focus on specific protection risks faced by people with disabilities and elderly people in the context of emergencies. The focus will be on the increased exposure to gender-based violence during COVID-19, with the aim of providing contextual mapping of the protective risks and barriers faced by people with disabilities and older people.

Field-level practitoners will exchange promising practices on the implementation of the IASC guidelines for the integration of people with disabilities and the follow-up actions will be jointly defined to support integration in emergency situations.
